Real Food Farm grows healthy, pesticide-free food on 6 acres of land in Clifton Park using environmentally sustainable methods. We improve food access in Northeast Baltimore by using a Mobile Market to sell fresh fruit and vegetables and offering a Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) program. Real Food Farm also provides field trips, summer programs, and internships for students and farming training opportunities for adults. Since 2009, Real Food Farm has grown over 60,000 lbs of food and educated over 3,000 people.

Public Forum on 21st Century School Buildings

There will be a Public Forum on the 21st Century School Buildings Program on September 10, 6pm-8:30pm at the Baltimore Design School.  The forum will feature presentations from city and state officials and allow the public to ask questions and join in discussions about various aspects of the program in smaller breakout sessions.    

 

This is the first public forum on the program since the the $1 billion school construction bill passed in Annapolis in 2013.  Year 1 schools are deep into the design phase and construction on the first schools will begin early next year.  Year 2 schools are just getting started.

 

In addition to getting updates on the school building projects, there's going to be a presentation on LOCAL HIRING and student apprenticeship opportunities - which we all know is desperately needed.  To ensure that this program brings the best education to city students and job opportunities to those in need, please come out and make your voice heard!

The Mayor’s Snow Shoveling Service for Elders (65 and Older) & the Disabled

who are unable to clear their own public sidewalks

& Shoveling Jobs for Youth, ages 14 – 21

 

To sign up for the free shoveling of public sidewalks

and to apply for shoveling jobs for next winter,

The City is currently taking applications:

1.    From residents 65 and older or with disabilities who need help clearing snow and request to have their public sidewalks regularly shoveled for free this coming winter; and,
2.    From youth ages 14-21 who are applying for City paid jobs to do this senior citizen snow shoveling all next winter.
 

For this snow shoveling program, eligible households and the youth providing services will be recruited from the same quadrants of the City. That way, youths will ideally be neighbors who are able to walk to their assignments in the snow and become well known to the elderly and disabled residents being served. Because of liability, the City cannot fund the clearing of private steps or sidewalks leading to front doors, although the elders may decide to work out a private arrangement for shoveling their private property.
