Nia Govan, Innovative Strategy and Perseverance of Community Leaders
Most
people know her as one of Councilman Henry’s longtime employees, who
has very ably helped countless constituents
deal with a wide variety of queries and concerns over the years. What
people might not know, however, is how much time Nia Govan has spent in
her own neighborhood of Wilson Park to increase the capacity of the
community association and help build stronger
relationships with Walter P. Carter Elementary/Middle, local churches,
nonprofits, and businesses. Whether she is helping seniors at Ellerslie
House plan their Christmas party, working with Walter P.’s principal and
staff on building programming for the recreation
center, partnering with Gather Baltimore to find locations and
volunteers for their fresh food distributions, or helping a local
business navigate the City’s permitting process to expand its services,
it’s safe to say that Nia’s efforts to support residents
and improve communities don’t cease when she leaves the office. We are
happy to present Nia Govan with YRP’s award for Innovative Strategy and
Perseverance of a Community Leader.
