Fall into winter w/ Ivanhoe Garden

This fall has created a shift in the Ivanhoe garden. With an earlier sunset most of our plants would not get there daily bath in the sun. One of our master gardeners came up with he idea to place in a few light boxes in the garden boxes. This will help implement some of missing day light through the winter solstice. Within this transformation we have successfully harvest 28  Swiss chard leaves.

In addition to the new lighting system, we’re adding in floral elements to bring more butterflies and bees to the garden. Butterflies and bees help to pollinate the plants. With new seeds, we may also add in a new box for more vegetables. The garden is flourishing , and several vegetables are being successfully harvested. Stay tuned for more updates!

Garden Planting and Transplanting

10/10/2020 Began a day of compassion, and important work at the Ivanvhoe Valley Garden. We started by planting 72 lettuces we received from UMD-Extension. Then, it was time to move some of our swiss chard and kale to the Wilson Park Garden at Alhambra/Willow. There we were able to thin out the vegetables, and place them in there new homes. Excited to see some new growth this fall!
