Post Cards for Education

As a response from the Baltimore Education Coalition meeting that we attended in January, WPNNA participated in the post cards for Education drive. By sending Post Cards to the state House, to protest budget cuts to the Baltimore City School Budget.

By participating in the Post Card Drive we're lobbying against $35.5 million budget cuts which translates to:

loss of more than 400 teachers or 700 support staff across the system
2-4 teachers/school staff from every elementary or k-8 school
3-6 teachers/school staff from every high school
and/or significant cuts to after school programming

Three primary goals on education funding:
1. restore $35.5 million to City Schools. Fully fund the stae education formula.
    a. Restore GCER funding
    b. Reject proposed freeze of per pupil funds-restore Inflation Factor (1.4%)
    c. Reject 1% cap on inflation for future years
    d. Hold City Schools harmless due to wealth increase of the City
2. Support the $4.3 million in Pre-K grant funding in the budget
3. Oppose public funding or tax credits to support private schools

We thank all the neighbors, parents, educators and students that sign post cards!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
